چکیده

At the Advanced Photon Source (APS) concern for radiation-induced demagnetization of the insertion devices (IDs) in the storage ring and in the free-electron laser has initiated systematic radiation effects studies towards the development of efficient techniques for ID protection. The studies include radiation dose monitoring, parametric study of the radiation-induced demagnetization, as well as, potentially, a dedicated radiation effects testbed at the APS providing GeV electron beams. Such studies could also be directly applicable to future generation facilities, such as the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS). Results and discussion of the radiation damage studies at APS are presented. PACS codes: 42.88, 41.85.L, 75.50.W

Assessment of the effects of radiation type and energy on the calibration of TLD-100

Introduction: In radiation therapy, knowing the dose rates to healthy organs and tumors is beneficial, and thermoluminescent dosimeter (TLD) allows for this possibility. This study was aimed at determining the dose-response differences of TLDs in various types of radiation, energy levels, and dose rate calibrated with other types of radiation beams and energy and dose levels. Materials and Meth...

High Brilliance and High Pressure: A New Diamond Anvil Cell Facility at the Advanced Photon Source

High energy and high brilliance make the Advanced Photon Source (APS) an ideal tool for high pressure studies. In this paper, we describe the diamond anvil cell (DAC) facility that is being developed for the APS by the GeoSoilEnviroCARS group of the Consortium for Advanced Radiation Sources (CARS). The DAC program aims at studying properties of materials across the entire pressure-temperature s...

Effects of particle size and weight percentage of heavy metal elements on photon shielding efficiency of reinforced polymer composites

Background: Polymer composites when reinforced with heavy metals in the form of micro/nano particles are efficient gamma- and X-ray shielding materials providing such advantageous features as cost-effectiveness, light-weight factor, flexibility, non-toxicity, conformability over conventional shields. Materials and Methods: In this paper the influence of weight percentages and particle sizes of ...

Comparison of the photon charge between water and solid phantom depending on depth

Background: This study assessed the clinical usefulness of the solid phantom, which may compensate for the disadvantages of the water phantom, by comparing the radiological doses between the two depending on their depths. Materials and Methods: The experimental equipment used was a linear accelerator for medical use, water phantom, solid phantom, Farmer type ion chamber and electrometer. The di...

Studies on Materials under Ultrahigh P-t at the Advanced Photon Source

The Advanced Photon Source (APS) is a third-generation synchrotron now in operation at Argonne National Laboratory. A national user facility for research in the Earth sciences is being constructed by the GeoSoilEnviro group of the Consortium for Advanced Radiation Sources (GSECARS). One component of this effort is the program for diamond anvil cell (DAC) research, to study materials at ultrahig...
